Position: Regional Director

Area: Central London

Years spent in security: 13

As part of our ongoing blog series, we’re showcasing our security team at Amulet. To us, they aren’t just faces that stand guard on the sidelines. Security officers are at the heart of any successful organisation.

Today, we speak with regional director Paul Rodriguez.

Journey into security

Paul’s entry into security started when a friend recommended a frontline security role at AOS Security. Here, he worked in loss prevention, as well as managing events of various sizes before being promoted to operations manager. AOS Security became part of Churchill Group in 2018, and re-branded as Amulet, where he continued to work as an operations manager.

Since then, he has continued his development with Amulet by completing various training programmes on offer. He saw a great opportunity in the ‘Excel Me’ programme, where he could meet with the operations director twice a year to talk about his career development, business goals and his overall trajectory. This targeted focus allowed him to break through obstacles he faced in his day-to-day work.

He has since progressed to senior regional manager and he is now working as a regional director overseeing the Central London region since October 2022.

A typical day

Paul’s remit as a regional director covers zones 1 to 4 of Central London supported by his management team, where he manages oversees 130 officers across multiple sites, including London Zoo. Amulet’s linear structure allows Paul the freedom to lead his region effectively.

A regional director’s role is always changing. One day, Paul could go to meet clients at one of his sites. The next, he might deliver training to his operation managers. From recruitment to development, Paul enjoys working with people and always tries to put staff wellbeing at the heart of all he does. As a strategic role, Paul loves the challenge of having an ever-changing day and keeping his region within budget and continually growing.

What Paul enjoys most

Paul is thankful to be working for an organisation that supports his mission to make the world a better place. During 2020, Paul started working on a newsletter that highlighted important environmental updates. Churchill Group saw what he was doing and brought the newsletter into regular business use. Amulet still uses this newsletter and Paul remains an integral part of its production.

Charity is important to Paul, as it is to Amulet. As one of Paul’s main contracts is London and Whipsnade Zoos, he loved being able to support the animal care. From cleaning the penguin beach to mucking out the gorilla enclosure, it was a joy for him to see his efforts benefit the animals directly. He has no intention of stopping.

For Paul, he doesn’t see his client relationships as contracts but as partnerships. Work that benefits people is something he cares deeply about. He looks forward to the future, where he will continue to support others through security and beyond.
