Amulet Innovation Day

Key themes from the roundtable discussion

  • Rising antisocial behaviour and public safety concerns: Across all sectors, statistics indicate an increase in theft, violence, and mental health issues. Transport, in particular, has seen a rise in incidents that impact commuter safety, requiring urgent action to rebuild confidence in public spaces.
  • Perception of security professionals: Security roles often carry negative stereotypes, with personnel perceived as forceful rather than approachable. The industry is addressing this by reframing job titles (e.g., “Travel Safe Officers” in rail) and promoting diversity, including hiring more women, to create a more inclusive and empathetic image of security.
  • Community engagement: Successful initiatives in the rail sector, like collaboration with local communities, have significantly improved safety and reduced issues like vandalism and suicides. Expanding these efforts across sectors could enhance security perceptions and public trust.
  • Collaboration and data sharing: Sectors currently work in silos, but tools like TfGM’s app demonstrate the power of integrated reporting systems to share incident data, analyse trends, and coordinate resources effectively.
